EUFCN reveals Location Awards 2025 Shortlist

The European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) has launched the ninth edition of the EUFCN Location Awards, the annual contest for European filming locations, which celebrates outstanding achievements in the world of filming locations in Europe and showcases the incredible talent that contributes to the magic of filmmaking.

Five outstanding locations, selected by the Location Awards 2025 Jury, are now competing for two distinct awards:

a) The EUFCN Location Award 2025, selected by the Location Award Jury

b) The EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025, selected by the public through online voting

The 2025 finalists are:

BELGRADE (Serbia Film Commission, SERBIA) for The Librarians: The Next Chapter

FIGUEIRA DA FOZ (Portugal Film Commission, PORTUGAL) for Broken Spies (Espias)

INARI (Film Lapland – Finnish Lapland Film Commission, FINLAND) for Arctic Circle (Ivalo)

LA PALMA (Canary Islands Film, SPAIN) for La Palma

SANGERHAUSEN (MDM Film Commission, GERMANY) for Phantoms of July (Sehnsucht in Sangerhausen)

During the first stage of the contest, EUFCN member Film Commissions and Film Offices had the opportunity to submit one location from a film or a series shot in their territory and released between September 29, 2024 and October 13, 2025.

The Location Awards 2025 Jury, composed by Alessandro Bonino (Production Supervisor at Wildside, a Fremantle company, ITALY), Andrea Keener (Location Manager, Board Member of the LMGI, USA), Gail McQuillan (Head of TV Production, Blueprint Pictures, UK), Sue Quinn (Supervising Location Manager, Member of the LMGI, UK), and Caroline von Kühn (Executive Director of Oxbelly, GREECE), evaluated all 13 submissions by the EUFCN members, focusing on the significant role of each location in the story and its remarkable impact on the audiovisual work.

“Serving on the EUFCN Location Award Jury has been an inspiring experience. Yet the task was far from simple, as this year’s imaginative entries made every decision a true challenge. From rugged natural landscapes and evocative historic sites to strikingly designed contemporary spaces, the locations did far more than frame the action, they elevated the storytelling on screen. This year’s work shows that when filmmakers treat a location as a true storytelling force, the result is a viewing experience that is richer, more immersive and truly worthy of recognition. Judging such diverse and remarkable filming locations across Europe has been a privilege.” – EUFCN Location Awards 2025 Jury

The contest is now entering its second phase when the Jury will be evaluating the five finalists, based on a more thorough set of criteria, to determine the winner of the EUFCN Location Award 2025, the best European Filming Location of 2025.

In parallel, the public will vote for the EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025. One lucky voter will win a trip to the winning location of the EUFCN Audience Location Award. Online voting opens on December 10, 2025 and closes on January 30, 2026 (11.59pm CET). Everyone can vote here: https://eufcn.com/location-awards-2025/

The winners of the EUFCN Location Award 2025 and of the EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025 will be revealed during the EFM/Berlinale 2026 in February.
