The event welcomed esteemed industry partners, international producers, members of the media, and highly acclaimed film professionals.

EUFCN Location Award 2025
The island of La Palma, located in the northwest of the Canary archipelago and designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, stands out for its rugged terrain, volcanic origins, and remarkable diversity of landscapes. The Netflix miniseries La Palma (2024) organically integrated this diversity of environments into its narrative, a fictional story that incorporated the 2021 volcanic eruption.
The EUFCN Location Award 2025 was received by Natacha Mora, Coordinator at Canary Islands Film, Lorena Martín, Project Manager at Canary Islands Film, and Beatriz Páez, Island Director of Tourism of the Island Council of La Palma.
The international production La Palma exemplified the importance of collaboration among the Film Commission, the Island Council (Cabildo), and local municipalities, streamlining permitting processes and strengthening logistical coordination for large-scale shoots.
“Receiving the EUFCN Location Award is a tremendous honour for La Palma. This recognition celebrates not only the extraordinary landscapes of our island, but also the dedication of our local professionals, institutions and community, who worked closely with the production team. It confirms that La Palma is a resilient, reliable and inspiring destination for international audiovisual projects.” – Sergio Rodríguez, President of the Island Council of La Palma
“This recognition demonstrates how collaboration between public institutions and the audiovisual sector can drive economic diversification and international projection. The success of La Palma is a clear example of how film and television can contribute to long-term development while showcasing the identity and authenticity of our territory.” – Miriam Perestelo, Councillor for Economic Promotion of the Island Council of La Palma
This is the second time the Canary Islands have been recognized with the Location Award, with El Hierro previously honored in 2019.
EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025
Between the ocean and the mountains, the city of Figueira da Foz stands out as one of Portugal’s most cinematic coastal cities, where heritage, nature and architecture intertwine to create an atmosphere both historical and timeless. Its diversity of locations gave the series Broken Spies an authentic visual identity, evoking the glamour, intrigue and tension of the 1940s.
The recipients of the EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025 were Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission and Pandora da Cunha Telles, producer at Ukbar Filmes (Portugal).
“Winning this award shows that Portugal, and particularly Figueira da Foz, offers the right conditions and outstanding locations for major international audiovisual productions. Let Portugal be the setting for your next project.” – Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission
One lucky voter of the EUFCN Audience Location Award will be offered a trip to Figueira da Foz where they will have the chance to experience rich architectural heritage, unspoiled coastal landscapes and a cinematic light shaped by the Atlantic.
EUFCN Location Awards 2025 Jury & Finalists
During the first stage of the contest, EUFCN member Film Commissions and Film Offices had the opportunity to submit one location from a film or a series shot in their territory and released between September 29, 2024 and October 13, 2025.
The Location Awards 2025 Jury, composed by Alessandro Bonino (Production Supervisor at Wildside, a Fremantle company, ITALY), Andrea Keener (Location Manager, Board Member of the LMGI, USA), Gail McQuillan (Head of TV Production, Blueprint Pictures, UK), Sue Quinn (Supervising Location Manager, Member of the LMGI, UK), and Caroline von Kühn (Executive Director of Oxbelly, GREECE), evaluated all 13 submissions by the EUFCN members, focusing on the significant role of each location in the story and its remarkable impact on the audiovisual work.
“This year’s contenders took us on an unforgettable journey through stories defined by place. Each location, whether dramatic natural landscapes or a site steeped in history did more than frame the action, it became a storyteller.
We are thrilled to announce La Palma as the winner of the EUFCN Location Award 2025. The island’s stunning landscapes have captured global attention, celebrating both its natural beauty and enduring spirit. La Palma stands as a shining example of how local communities, institutions and international productions can come together to create stories that are as authentic as they are cinematic.
Every finalist brought a distinctive identity to their location, transforming individual narratives into experiences that resonate universally, touching audiences around the world. Choosing a winner from such an extraordinary and diverse collection of sites was no easy task. Our warmest congratulations go to all the finalists for their creativity, vision and excellence in this year’s EUFCN Location Award.” – EUFCN Location Awards 2025 Jury
